Members Exhibition at the Mercure Bolton Hotel – John Barton

It’s been a while due to lockdown, but we are pleased to announce that we have a new members exhibition on show at our exhibition space at the Mercure Georgian House Hotel in Bolton.

John has specialised in monochrome photography for over 50 years. In that time his main interest has been in photographing the natural landscape and smaller natural objects. He has been drawn to the wilder landscape and less populated areas which can sometimes appear to have little immediate attraction. Closer inspection often shows that even the most unpromising subject can reveal an unexpected power and beauty.

Using monochrome materials or converting a digital image to monochrome enables the photographer to emphasise the drama of light, shade and form in the subject.

As well as Lancashire Monochrome, John is a member of the Yorkshire Monochrome Group and Accrington Camera Club.

We are pleased to announce a new members exhibition at our gallery space in the Mercure Bolton Georgian House. Andrew Auty’s exhibition is of landscape photography and Andrew describes the exhibition like this:

This exhibition is about trees and the spaces they occupy in the landscape. In this exhibition, I have featured some of the magnificent places that trees are privileged to occupy. In some images, prominence is given to a single tree or a group of trees, in others the main focus is on the space around them.

Chris McGinley’s Exhibition now on at the Mercure Georgian House, Bolton

Chris McGinley Exhibition, Georgian House, March 2019

We are pleased to announce that the latest exhibition in our gallery space at the Mercure Georgian House Hotel in Bolton features the work of Chris McGinley. Chris is an accomplished street photographer whose work is well observed and often humorous. A member of both Lancashire Monochrome and Yorkshire Monochrome, Chris has two galleries of work on our website here and here.

The work is on display in the main bar area of the hotel and will run until the end of May.

Ray Parkin Exhibition at Mercure Georgian House, Bolton

We are pleased to announce that the latest exhibition in our gallery space at the Mercure Georgian House in Bolton is from Lancashire Monochrome member Ray Parkin.

The exhibition is titled ‘Patterns In The Sand’ and Ray’s artists statement describes it thus:

A beach serves many purposes: it is a playground, a place of rest, somewhere for a gentle stroll or strenuous run, and much else. For me, on this visit to Embleton Bay in Northumberland, it was an opportunity to reflect on the effect that the sea and its tide has on this particular environment. The tide had recently receded leaving these irregular patterns in the wet sand, arbitrarily depositing pebbles and larger stones, shells and seaweed. To all this, footprints had already been added. I found that the taking, processing and printing of these images was an enjoyable and rewarding process. These images are all on the same theme and, therefore, they do not have their own titles. They are not images of places or people, but of abstract patterns formed in the sand by the sea and therefore are more about my experience of the beach than the time and place.

Patterns In The Sand will be on display until the end of February 2019.

Lancashire Monochrome’s new gallery space in the main bar at the Mercury Bolton Georgian House is now complete.

The group has had photographs on display in the main corridor at the hotel for several years, but following the £100,000 refurbishment of the main bar area, the hotel management offered the wall space to Lancashire Monochrome. We now have fourteen frames available for members work which will be swapped over several times a year.

Currently, work on display is a combination of annual exhibition prints and smaller portfolio’s. Work on display is from Keith Launchbury, David Hawkins, Barabara Fallas, Dave Wilkinson and Peter Maddock.
